Soba Noodles

In addition to Muzusawa Udon, Soba made with Shibukawa’s pure water is delicious. Toyoaki Soba, made from homegrown buckwheat, is popular and you can eat it at ‘Sobakobo’ at Miyukida Nosanbutsu Chokubaijo.  While there, you can also enjoy making soba noodles if you want to try! Yu no Hana Manju (Bean-jam Buns)

Yu no Hana Manju is a special onsen manju (bean-jam buns steamed in hot spring vapor). Manju is a small brown bun filled with sweet bean paste.  Ikaho is the birthplace of the onsen manju, and there are many shops for Yu no Hana Manju along the Ikaho Stone Steps and prefectural roads in Ikaho.

Sosaku Kokeshi (Orijinal Artistic Wooden Dolls)

Sosaku Kokeshi has it’s orijin on Japanese traditional wooden dolls, Kokeshi.  It was turned into modern art work.  70% of Sousaku Kokeshi are made in Gunma Prefecture. There are many Sosaku Kokeshi artisans in Shibukawa, that Shibukawa is thought of as the home of the Sosaku Kokeshi.  Nowadays, Kokeshi are even popular asartistic ornaments for western style rooms.
